I have lived in Pretoria for the largest part of my life and what I absolutely love about my hometown is its people and their warm hospitality. During 1989 I started my career in travel as a junior travel consultant. Those were the days of paper tickets, handwritten invoices and the fax machine was our most modern technology. Over the years a lot has changed, but one thing remains the same - the uniqueness of people. Traveling from Luxembourg to Greece, to Holland and then Israel, by train, plane and ferry was an amazing experience, and a life-lesson that I will never forget.Much of my earlier travel was solo travel. I experienced 1 January 2000 in Ireland, flew to Paris for a weekend to celebrate my 40th, back to Paris a couple of years later to attend a creative workshop and in December 2018 travelled to and through parts of the Czech Republic visiting family with my husband. I was fortunate enough to travel to France twice in 2022, and to visit Milan for the first time. It might just slowly be trumping Paris as my favourite European city. Later this year I'll be on a river cruise through Germany and the Netherlands and spending Christmas in Amsterdam - something that I last did (and loved) in 1992! My first taste of travel was on a Contiki tour when I finished school and I got my first taste of the UK and Europe. I visited the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, France, Austria, Italy and Lichtenstein. My eyes were opened! I returned home to study, and as soon as I was done, I got a job in Dubai and lived there for 3 years, experiencing as much of the Middle East as I could, including UAE, Iran and Saudi. On returning to South Africa, I carried on my travel journey by becoming a travel agent. This opened the door to many more opportunities to travel, so I've since also experienced Mauritius, Seychelles and Thailand.One of my favourite destinations has to be Switzerland – with her wide open spaces, the mountains and lakes, the green and then the white of the snowcapped mountains... or maybe Seychelles with its protected beauty and stunning beaches... or maybe Thailand with its bustling city and beautiful temples... then again, maybe Dubai with its cosmopolitan city, but stark deserts. My travels include skiing in Italy, as well as in the French Alps, cruising in the Mediterrean, best-snorkelling and swimming with Manta rays in the Maldives, screaming my lungs out on a tuk-tuk on the chaotic roads in India, tasting the best chocolate in Switzerland, being a kid again at Euro Disney, as well as Disney World, I have been to 4 different Clubmed's, 4 trips to Mauritius, marvelling at the majestic pyramids in Cairo, riding on a bicycle past a water buffalo in Vietnam, seeing a Broadway show in New York...endless amazing experiences....and believe me, there are still plenty on my list.I am excited about travelling and believe that the more stories you have to tell and the more memories you have about amazing places, the better.
