At a time when sanctions limited South Africans, we were lucky enough to explore Europe, often through Eurocamp resorts. After school I returned to the UK for 2 years, working on Herm Island in the Channel Islands, then in Glasgow and London, with a trip to Ireland and a wild 10‑countries‑in‑21‑days Contiki tour that cemented my career path. Since then I have travelled widely: Australia’s vibrant east coast cities and Whitsunday Islands, our neighbours Mozambique, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia, plus extensive travels all over South Africa. Industry trips have taken me to Mauritius, Cancun, Macau, Victoria Falls and beautiful Kruger lodges. My love of hiking and yoga has led me along trails like the Fish River Canyon, the Otter Trail and, in 2025, the Inca Trail in Peru, with an unforgettable visit to Machu Picchu and a stopover in São Paulo. I have also explored Morocco and co‑hosted a retreat in Namibia, dashed through Copenhagen and Stockholm, and road‑tripped Iceland. Even in destinations I have not yet visited, like Indonesia, Vietnam, Turkey, Croatia and the Indian Ocean Islands, I have done extensive training and booked many trips. Over the years I have developed a particular passion and expertise for honeymoons, wellness escapes, sustainable and tailor‑made travel. I am a big supporter of solo travel, because it has been the backbone of my own story, and I know how to design trips that feel safe, empowering and deeply personal when you are travelling on your own. Zimbabwean-born, South African-bred, a British citizen after five years in the UK, an honorary Australian thanks to my whole family living there, and now happily based in Knysna with my husband and two children, I have always felt that the world is “home”. Australia: Snorkelling with turtles on the Great Barrier Reef was incredibly special. South America: Seeing Iguassu Falls from both the Brazilian and Argentinian sides took my breath away. Thailand: Taking a longtail boat from Phi Phi harbour to the tropical paradise of Phi Phi Island Village is something I will never forget. Before becoming a Travel Counsellor in 2013, I worked for a large leisure retail group (2005–2010) and a student travel group (2010–2013). To me, the best trips are never simply a collection of flights, hotels and transfers. They are carefully considered journeys, shaped around the people taking them – how you like to travel, what excites you, what you would rather avoid, how much structure you want, and the little details that can completely change the way a destination feels. I have travelled to more than 60 countries and much of the advice I give comes from first-hand experience. I have explored Europe extensively, travelled through Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore, cruised Alaska, journeyed to Argentina, Uruguay and Antarctica, touched on North America, and experienced destinations across Africa and beyond. Europe remains one of my greatest passions, particularly France, Italy, Austria, Hungary and the Balkans, and Japan has become the destinations closest to my heart. My relationship with travel began long before I became a Travel Counsellor. After completing an Honours degree in Biochemistry and beginning a Law degree, I joined a Contiki tour through Europe in 2006. By day two, I knew I had found the world I wanted to work in. I returned to Europe and spent four years as a Tour Manager, leading 37 tours and travelling extensively across the continent. Those years gave me far more than destination knowledge. They taught me how people actually travel. I learned which experiences are worth getting up early for, which famous sights live up to the hype, where location matters more than hotel star rating, how much can realistically fit into a day, and why sometimes the place you remember most is the one you nearly left off the itinerary. Before joining Travel Counsellors in 2019, I spent almost two decades working in complex corporate events and incentive travel. That experience taught me how to manage moving parts, anticipate problems and obsess over detail – skills that now sit behind every leisure itinerary I create. Today, my focus is highly personalised travel. That may mean a multi-city European journey built around beautiful boutique hotels and train travel, a once-in-a-lifetime African safari, a food-led trip through Japan, an expedition to the polar regions, a honeymoon that feels completely unlike anyone else’s, or simply a very well-planned holiday where everything works. I particularly love journeys that combine destinations, experiences and different styles of travel. The more moving parts there are, the more valuable thoughtful planning becomes - sometimes this is a private guide who completely changes how you see a city. Over the course of my career, I’ve had the joy of travelling far and wide: racing on high-speed trains in Shanghai, exploring the buzz of New York, revelling in the sights and sounds of London, discovering the history, food and beautiful cities of Italy, experiencing the charm of Greece and its islands, taking in Norway’s spectacular scenery and fjords, sailing on a yacht across Sydney Harbour, lazing on a sunny beach in Mauritius, learning to tango in Argentina, pausing for a cool drink on the promenade in Rio and striding down the marble road to the great library at Ephesus. There has been plenty of fun and adventure too: politely skipping past Kari Sousouri (fruit bat stew) in the Seychelles, screeching like a kid while attempting to sandboard in Dubai, getting soaked in an Auckland downpour, crouching and crawling through underground tunnels in Vietnam, and riding a rather smelly camel at the pyramids in Egypt. These are just some of my memories from travelling through the USA, United Kingdom, Europe, Russia, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, Egypt, South America and the Indian Ocean islands, among others. And then there is Alaska, still firmly on my bucket list. I also have a huge crush on cruising. How else can you visit multiple countries, eat as much as you like, shop until you drop, work it off in the gym, relax by the pool, watch a show, mingle or slip away to a quiet corner, enjoy a pedicure, climb a rock wall, dress up or dress down… and only unpack once? Travel should never be limited by your age, who you travel with, or whether you choose to go it alone. I love helping solo travellers set off with confidence, creating comfortable and rewarding journeys for senior travellers, and bringing generations together for those special trips where shared experiences become family stories.
