Useful Apps while travelling
These days most of us travel with an Android or iPhone in hand, and the right apps can genuinely make your journey smoother, safer and a lot more enjoyable. Here is a refreshed round‑up you can share with your clients of useful travel apps to consider before their next trip.
MyTC app
The MyTC app is a must‑have for my clients. It keeps all your travel plans in
one secure place: flights, hotels, transfers, excursions and key documents. You
can access your up‑to‑date itinerary offline, receive important notifications,
and message me directly through the app if you need help while you are away. It
is a simple way to feel supported and organised from booking right through to
your return home.
SIM / eSIM apps
Staying connected abroad is much easier with SIM and eSIM apps. These allow you
to purchase local or regional data plans before you travel or as soon as you
land, often at far better rates than traditional roaming. You simply choose a
package for your destination, install the eSIM on your phone, and activate it
when you arrive. It is ideal for using maps, messaging and social media without
worrying about a surprise bill.
WiFox
WiFox is a crowdsourced database of airport Wi‑Fi passwords. Travellers around
the world add and update password information, and the app displays available
hotspots on an airport map. Tap on the hotspot you want to use and the app
shows the network details, including the latest password that has been shared.
Pocket First Aid & CPR
This app provides step‑by‑step instructions for basic first aid and CPR, so it
is a helpful reference in an emergency. You can also store key medical
information securely in the app, so it is easily accessible if you or someone
you are travelling with needs help.
City Maps 2Go
Perfect for exploring without using data, City Maps 2Go allows you to download
detailed city maps in advance. You can save places, use guides and browse
suggested points of interest, all offline. Ideal for wandering new
neighbourhoods or when your signal is unreliable.
Google Maps
A staple for most travellers, Google Maps offers driving directions, public
transport information, traffic updates and walking routes. In many destinations
you can also enjoy 360‑degree street views and audio‑guided directions. It is
free on both Android and iPhone, and you can download offline maps as a back‑up
too.
Wi‑Fi Finder
If you need to get online, Wi‑Fi Finder helps you track down free and paid
hotspots near your current location. You can search for public Wi‑Fi around
you, which is particularly handy if you are trying to avoid using roaming data.
Spyglass (GPS app)
For anyone who struggles with navigation, Spyglass is a feature‑rich GPS app.
It shows your precise position on the map and allows you to save important
locations, such as your hotel, so you can easily find your way back. It is
especially useful for independent explorers who like to venture off the main
tourist routes.
Google Translate
Google Translate lets you type or speak a word or phrase, then translates it
into dozens of languages. In many cases you can also listen to the translation
being spoken, which is incredibly useful when you are trying to make yourself
understood in a hurry or in an emergency. Available free on Android, iPhone and
iPad.
TravelSafe Pro
TravelSafe Pro gives you access to important safety information for the country
you are visiting, including local emergency numbers and key embassy contact
details. It is a simple but valuable resource to have at your fingertips when
travelling internationally.
Kids Aid
This app focuses on emergencies involving children, such as how to give CPR or
what to do in case of poisoning. It is designed to guide you through what to do
step by step, which is especially reassuring if you are travelling somewhere
where you do not speak the language well enough to explain the problem.
ICE (In Case of Emergency)
ICE stores vital details about your medical conditions, medications, doctors
and insurance, and can be accessed even if your phone is locked. The
information can be translated into several languages, helping medical staff
quickly understand your needs if something happens while you are abroad.
