AI vs Travel COunsellors: Why the Human Touch Wins Every Time

Cape Town

AI is everywhere. It can suggest destinations, write itineraries and even “plan” your holiday in seconds. Convenient? Yes. Safe, accurate and truly personal? Not always. When it comes to your travel plans, the human touch still matters.

1. AI Does Not Really Know You

AI works on data and averages, not on people and feelings. It does not know:

  • Why this trip is important to you
  • That you hate crowds or long coach transfers
  • That your child needs quieter spaces
  • That you prefer boutique hotels to big chains

I start with you: your likes, dislikes, worries and dreams, then build the trip around that. AI starts with “most people” and guesses.

2. Risk of Wrong or Outdated Information

AI often sounds confident, even when it is wrong. It can give:

  • Old visa or health rules
  • Timetables for flights or ferries that no longer run
  • Recommendations for hotels or restaurants that are closed

In travel, those mistakes can cost you time, money and peace of mind. I constantly check real-time information and use trusted sources, not guesses.

3. No Help When Things Go Wrong

If a flight is cancelled or a bag goes missing, AI will not:

  • Call the airline on your behalf
  • Fight for refunds or better alternatives
  • Calmly help you re-plan while you are stressed at the airport

As your travel advisor, I am your advocate. You have one person to call who knows your plans and will work to fix things.

4. Popular Does Not Mean Right

AI usually pushes what is most talked about online. That can mean:

  • The same overcrowded “top 10” places
  • Hotels that look good on a screen but do not suit your style
  • No real understanding of quality, only star ratings and reviews

I use judgement, feedback and experience to suggest what is right for you, not just what is popular.

5. No Emotional Intelligence

Travel is emotional: honeymoons, anniversaries, reunions, healing after a tough time. AI cannot sense your nerves, excitement or doubts.

I listen to your tone, notice your concerns and adjust plans with empathy. You are not a line of data to me, you are a person.

Technology Helps Me, It Does Not Replace Me

I do use technology to check options and keep up to date, but it supports my work; it does not replace the relationship, care and judgement that come from a real human.

Choosing a human travel advisor means choosing:

  • Personal connection
  • Expert advice
  • Protection and support
  • Thoughtfully designed, stress-free travel

If you are tired of conflicting online advice and “robot” recommendations, let us talk. I will design a trip that feels made just for you, with real care behind every detail.
