10 Days from R50,100 per person sharing
Itinerary:
Day 1: Venice (Ravenna), Italy
Along Italy's northeast coast you'll discover Ravenna, once a thriving seaport and the westernmost pillar of the Byzantine Empire. Its exquisite Byzantine mosaics are the reason travellers have marvelled here for centuries, and the domes of its churches still evoke that Eastern heritage. It's also a wonderful place to taste the celebrated cuisine of the Emilia-Romagna region.
Day 2: Dubrovnik, Croatia
Behind its magnificent 13th-century walls, Dubrovnik ranks among the most welcoming destinations in all of Europe. The poet Lord Byron dubbed it "the pearl of the Adriatic," and one look at its marble streets and orange-roofed buildings tells you why. You can wander the old town, then retreat to a lovely beach tucked between rocky ledges.
Day 3: Bar, Montenegro
Bar blends a handsome coastal setting with the practical charm of a busy seaport and transport hub. It makes the perfect base for exploring the remarkable ruins of Stari Bar in the mountains above the modern town. As you head towards the Albanian border, you'll notice more mosques and Ottoman-style buildings, a legacy of the region's layered history.
Day 4: Salerno, Italy
Salerno's history runs as deep as its surrounding landscapes are lovely, from Neolithic settlements to medieval Europe's first medical school. Sitting where the mountains meet the sea at the southeastern edge of the famed Amalfi Coast, it rewards you with sunlit beaches, nature reserves, and historic sites. Add the delicious local cuisine, and you'll understand why so many have been drawn to the Gulf of Salerno.
Day 5: Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Italy
Few regions rival Tuscany for art and history, and Florence and Pisa put both within easy reach. Best of all, Florence's main attractions sit centrally, making for a rewarding walking tour. Take in Santa Croce, the Piazza del Duomo, and Michelangelo's David before the day is done.
Day 6: Toulon, France
On France's Mediterranean coast, Toulon is known for its naval history and remains an important base to this day. Its old town is the most charming quarter to explore, with small squares, fountains, and inviting cafés lining the streets. Join the locals each morning at the open-air Provençal market on the Cours Lafayette.
Day 7: Palma (Majorca), Spain
Founded by the Romans some 2,100 years ago, Palma is layered with history and architectural splendour at every turn. You can lose yourself in the mazes of alleyways and cobbled paths surrounding the Gothic cathedral. Yet the city hums with life too, home to the island's finest restaurants, shops, and a lively art scene.
Day 8: Barcelona, Spain
The capital of Catalonia is a city of palpable history, made for strolling the medieval streets of the Barri Gòtic. It's designed to delight the senses, from GaudÃ's otherworldly La Sagrada FamÃlia to a street-side café serving patatas bravas or a passion fruit mojito. As a gateway to the wider Mediterranean, Barcelona blends the excitement of a great city with the promise of the voyage ahead.
Day 9: At Sea aboard the Norwegian Prima
Today belongs to the ship. Unwind on deck, indulge in gourmet dining, and let the Mediterranean drift past as you recharge. It's the ideal moment to savour the comfort and craft of life aboard the Norwegian Prima.
Day 10: Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy
Rome brings the voyage to a close with two and a half thousand years of history, art, and culture packed into one endlessly walkable city. You can gaze at the masterpieces of the Vatican, step into the past among ancient relics and legendary museums, or simply people-watch over an espresso in a quiet café. It's little wonder Rome remains one of the most visited cities on the planet.
