Itinerary:
Day 1: Welcome to Istanbul
Arrive in Istanbul and settle into your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, there may be an opportunity for a first wander before meeting your Travel Director and fellow travellers over dinner.
Day 2: Discover Istanbul
Explore Topkapi Palace, visit Hagia Sophia and the Byzantine Hippodrome, and view the Blue Mosque. Learn about the country’s musical heritage at the Museum of Classical Turkish Music, then browse the Grand Bazaar’s colourful lanes for ceramics, spices and keepsakes.
Day 3: Istanbul to Gallipoli and Çanakkale
Leave the city behind for a moving visit to Gallipoli. Spend time at Anzac Cove and the war cemeteries before crossing the Dardanelles by ferry from Eceabat to Çanakkale, your overnight stop.
Day 4: Troy, Demircidere and Izmir
Discover the stories behind ancient Troy and its famous wooden horse replica. Continue to Demircidere village for a Be My Guest lunch, sharing food and conversation with local hosts. Afterwards, travel to the coastal city of Izmir.
Day 5: Ephesus to Pamukkale
Walk among the remains of Ephesus, where the Library of Celsus and Great Theatre offer a glimpse of life in an ancient city. Visit the House of the Virgin Mary and learn about Turkish carpet weaving before continuing to Pamukkale. There’s time to unwind in your hotel’s thermal pools.
Day 6: Hierapolis to Konya
Explore Hierapolis, an ancient city built beside Pamukkale’s mineral-rich springs. Then journey inland to Konya, where the Mevlana Museum and Mausoleum introduce the spiritual legacy of the poet Rumi. Enjoy dinner at your hotel this evening.
Day 7: Konya to Cappadocia
Travel towards Cappadocia, seeing a historic caravanserai and the underground city of Saratli along the way. Discover traditional pottery making in Avanos before settling into distinctive accommodation shaped from the surrounding rock. An optional Whirling Dervishes ceremony and local dinner are available at an additional cost.
Day 8: Explore Göreme and Cappadocia
Spend the day among Cappadocia’s remarkable valleys and rock formations and the underground city of Saratli. Visit the Göreme Open-Air Museum to see its rock-cut churches and admire the fairy chimneys of Paşabağ. An optional sunrise balloon-watching experience offers another perspective on the scenery, at an additional cost.
Day 9: Fly back to Istanbul
Take the included flight from Cappadocia to Istanbul. An optional Bosphorus cruise offers views of waterfront palaces, neighbourhoods and minarets from the water, at an additional cost. This evening, gather for a final dinner with your travel companions.
Day 10: Farewell Istanbul
Enjoy breakfast before saying goodbye to Turkey and your fellow travellers. Continue to the airport for your onward journey.
