Capital Cities of the Danube

Itinerary: 

Day 1: Belgrade, Serbia

Arrive in Belgrade and board your Uniworld ship for the start of your Danube journey. Settle into your stateroom and get comfortable as you prepare to explore five countries over the days ahead. Guests with an arranged Uniworld arrival transfer will be met at the airport and transferred to the ship.

Day 2: Belgrade, Serbia

Spend the day discovering one of Europe’s oldest cities, where centuries of history sit alongside a lively modern culture. Choose from experiences including a cycling tour, a visit to the Royal Palace and Church of Saint Sava, or a walking tour through Kalemegdan Fortress and the city centre. In the evening, return onboard for the Captain’s Welcome Reception and Dinner.

Day 3: Novi Sad, Serbia

Discover Novi Sad, a relaxed city known for its colourful architecture, cultural diversity and thriving arts scene. You could explore the city before visiting a traditional countryside estate and local monastery, or head towards Fruška Gora for Serbian wine tasting and a visit to the historic Hopovo Monastery. Both experiences offer a closer look at local life beyond Serbia’s capital.

Day 4: Batina & Ilok, Croatia

Cross into Croatia for a day filled with history, countryside and local flavours. Choose to visit the Vučedol Culture Museum, explore Osijek and enjoy lunch in a local family home, or discover the natural beauty of the Syrmia region with a river journey, forest walk and farm lunch. It’s a chance to experience a quieter and more traditional side of Croatia.

Day 5: Budapest, Hungary

Arrive in Budapest, where Buda and Pest sit on opposite sides of the Danube and each bring their own character to the city. Take in landmarks such as Heroes’ Square, the Parliament Building and Castle Hill, or explore elegant Andrássy Avenue and the beautiful Szabó Ervin Library. With impressive architecture around almost every corner, Budapest is one of the highlights of the journey.

Day 6: Bratislava, Slovakia

Spend the day exploring Slovakia’s compact and characterful capital on the banks of the Danube. Discover its historic streets on a coronation-themed walking tour with a cathedral recital, or take a more active route with a hike to Bratislava Castle for views across the city. Afterwards, enjoy more of the Old Town and its colourful buildings, squares and quirky statues.

Day 7: Vienna, Austria

Finish your sightseeing in grand style with a day in Vienna, once at the heart of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Discover the city’s imperial landmarks and Hofburg Palace, experience its musical heritage or enjoy a special evening visit to the Belvedere and its collection of works by Gustav Klimt. Back onboard, celebrate your journey at the Captain’s Farewell Reception and Dinner.

Day 8: Vienna, Austria

Wake up in Vienna as your Danube journey comes to an end. After breakfast, disembark the ship and continue with your onward travel. Leave with memories of five countries, four distinctive capitals and the towns and landscapes found between them.
