First Impressions

Step into the foyer and you are met with that all too familiar lemon grass and orange scent of Mauritius, art, tropical flowers and soft natural light. It feels curated but not fussy: little pockets of interest, big changing flower arrangements and a sense of calm.

The bar grabbed my attention straight away: polished glassware, a proper backlit display and live music in the evenings. It sets the tone for slow, relaxed nights and that familiar promise of “just one more” drink.

Evenings to Savour

Sunset here feels like an event rather than a time on the clock. As the light softens, the bar and pool area gently fill. Musicians play just loudly enough to create atmosphere, but you can still chat and people-watch.

At Coco’s Beach Bar, Golden Hour Cocktail specials arrive colourful, icy cold and with just enough kick. Sitting with a drink while the sky turns pink and gold over the lagoon is one of those mental snapshots you know will stay with you.

From the pool there is a wide, open view of the sky as the sun sinks. On the beach, soft white sand and calm water give you a front-row seat. Wander barefoot with a cocktail in hand or sink into a lounger and watch the colours shift on the water. It is incredibly peaceful, the kind of evening where you genuinely lose track of time.

The food is another highlight. From various theme evenings to fine dining options. One night I had a simple, flavour-packed stir fry, the next, beautiful prawns that completely stole the show. It is the sort of dining where you consciously slow down because you do not want the meal to end too soon.

Life on the Water

If you like to mix a bit of activity with your lounging, the lagoon is ideal. Guests can take kayaks, pedalos or stand-up paddle boards and potter around in calm, clear water at their own pace.

The resort also has its own private island, Ilot Mangénie, around 10 minutes away by boat. There are no loud party boats, just small boats and catamarans in the distance, the hum of the engine and the odd splash of oars. It feels like a quiet little offshoot of Mauritius that is all yours.

On the island, loungers are well spaced, so you never feel crowded. There is a private restaurant, plenty of shade and a wonderfully understated atmosphere. It is the kind of place where you read, nap, watch the water and do very little else, in the best possible way.

Rooms That Make You Slow Down

The rooms at Shangri-La Le Touessrok are made for people who actually enjoy being in their room. Some have patios leading directly onto the beach, so you can go from bed to sand in just a few steps.

Our large double had loads of closet space, ideal for longer stays or multiple “outfit moods”. The bathtub is a bit of a showpiece and feels heavenly after a day in the sun. There is a comfy couch and TV too, but we hardly used them. Sitting on the terrace, listening to the waves, you quickly realise the TV can wait.

Space To Breathe & Who It Is For

What I appreciated most was the sense of space: wide walkways, open lounges and quiet shady corners. Even when the resort is busy, it never feels hectic.

That breathing room, together with ocean views, gardens and attention to detail, gives you classic Mauritian luxury without the stiffness.

I would especially recommend it for couples wanting romantic sunsets and relaxed evenings, families who value calm, swimmable water and easy activities, and style-conscious travellers who prefer a low-key, thoughtful kind of luxury.
