Discover Italy’s iconic cities, colourful coastal villages and rich history on this unforgettable, 7-night journey. Explore the canals of Venice, hike through the beautiful Cinque Terre, experience the artistic heart of Florence and finish in the ancient streets of Rome. With a mix of guided walks, scenic train journeys and free time to explore independently, this is a wonderful introduction to Italy.
Day 1-2: Welcome to Venice
Arrive in Venice, a beautiful city built around canals, bridges and historic piazzas. Meet your group and local leader at the welcome meeting this evening. If you arrive early, take a walk along the Grand Canal or cross the famous Rialto Bridge. You could also enjoy your first taste of authentic Venetian cuisine at a local restaurant.
Start the day with an orientation walk around Venice and the impressive St Mark’s Square. Admire the city’s beautiful Classical, Gothic and Baroque architecture. Spend the rest of the day exploring at your own pace by foot or boat. You could take a gondola ride, visit the Doge’s Palace or enjoy cicchetti and wine at a local bacaro.
Day 3: Travel to La Spezia
Board a morning train and travel through the scenic north of Italy to La Spezia. This charming town is the gateway to the beautiful villages of Cinque Terre. After checking in, take a gentle stroll through the pedestrian streets and browse the local shops. The evening is free to enjoy dinner and relax before tomorrow’s adventure.
Day 4: Discover Cinque Terre
Spend the day exploring the colourful villages and rocky coastline of Cinque Terre. Use your included day pass to walk along the scenic paths or travel between the villages by train. Discover places such as Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. You could also join an optional pesto-making class or enjoy a coastal cruise.
Day 5-6: Travel to Florence
Travel by train to Florence, the beautiful heart of Tuscany and the birthplace of the Renaissance. Join your leader on an orientation walk to get to know the city. Admire the historic streets, grand buildings and lively piazzas. In your free time, enjoy Tuscan specialities or join an optional food walk.
Spend another day discovering Florence at your own pace. Visit the Uffizi Gallery, admire Michelangelo’s David or explore the magnificent Duomo. For panoramic city views, walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo. There is also the option to take a day trip to Siena or simply relax over coffee and gelato.
Day 7: Discover Rome
Travel by train to Rome, Italy’s historic and lively capital city. Join your leader for an orientation walk through some of the city’s famous streets and piazzas. Spend the afternoon visiting the Colosseum, Pantheon, Vatican Museums or Trevi Fountain. Finish the day with delicious Roman food at a local trattoria.
Day 8: Farewell to Italy
Your Italian adventure comes to an end in Rome. Enjoy a final breakfast and take in a few last views of this remarkable city. If time allows, enjoy one more espresso, gelato or stroll through a nearby piazza. Say goodbye to your fellow travellers and continue with your onward journey.
