This six-night journey takes you deep into the heart of Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park, one of Africa's great wildlife sanctuaries and a landscape of extraordinary scale and drama. You'll fly in and out of Victoria Falls Airport, but the journey proper begins the moment your light aircraft lifts off towards the wilderness.
Day 1: Arrive in Zimbabwe
Journey to Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe's largest reserve and home to around 40,000 elephants alongside lion, sable, and more than 100 species of mammal. Beneath you, the landscape unfolds in golden grasslands, teak woodland, and the rust-red sands that mark the eastern edge of the Kalahari. You land at Robins Camp Airstrip in the park's wild northern reaches before a ground transfer delivers you to Deteema Springs. By the time you arrive, the camp will feel less like a destination and more like a discovery. The waterhole is close. The elephants are closer. Your first evening in Zimbabwe sets the tone for everything that follows.
Day 2-3: Enjoy Deteema Springs
Deteema Springs occupies a privileged position beside one of Hwange's most reliably active waterholes, and the wildlife activity here can be extraordinary. Elephants come to drink in their hundreds during the dry season, accompanied by buffalo, sable, lion, and the quieter dramas of the African bush. Days fall into a rhythm of early morning game drives when the air is sharp, and the light is long, afternoon rest as the heat builds and the landscape stills, then late afternoon drives that stretch into sundowners as the sky becomes a canvas of burnt orange and deep violet.
Evenings at Deteema are spent in the company of fellow guests, lingering over meals prepared with care, watching the waterhole from the comfort of camp as the night comes alive with sound. It's unhurried, immersive, and utterly romantic.
Day 4: Fly to Verney's Camp
After a final morning at Deteema, your light aircraft takes you south to Manga Airstrip for the transfer to Verney's Camp. The flight itself is part of the experience, Hwange stretching away beneath you, vast and almost impossibly wild.
Days 4-6: Explore Verney's Camp
Verney's promises a distinct sense of place. Smaller and more intimate, the camp sits within a landscape that rewards patience and attention. Dawn game drives that carry you through open woodland and grassland, afternoons spent watching the world from camp, and evenings that feel genuinely far from anywhere else on earth. The fully inclusive nature of the stay means there's nothing to think about beyond what's in front of you: the animals, the silence, and the company of the person beside you.
Conclude your journey with a final light aircraft transfer that returns you to Victoria Falls Airport, carrying with you the particular, the lasting quiet that the African bush leaves behind.
