The Grand Hotel, GrandWest: Cape Town Fun for the Whole Family

Sherrilyn Guess on 10 Jul 2026

My children and I were privileged to enjoy a fun and special stay at The Grand Hotel in the July school holidays. Set within the Grand West Arena, it was a short walk to the Disney on Ice show we had booked, with lots of exciting distractions en-route (a multitude of restaurants, eateries, an ice rink, games & entertainment centre). If your idea of a great family break is convenience, colour and plenty to keep the children entertained, The Grand Hotel at GrandWest in Cape Town is a brilliant option to consider.

The Grand Hotel, steeped in history, feels more intimate than a large city property, which many families appreciate.

  • Comfortable, well-appointed rooms where you can properly unpack and relax.
  • A welcoming atmosphere that feels safe and manageable with children, with the best & friendliest staff!
  • The added reassurance of being right on site for all the GrandWest facilities.

For parents, the big appeal is how easy everything is: no long transfers, no hunting for somewhere to eat at the end of a busy day, and no need to get everyone back in the car for evening activities.

Staying at The Grand Hotel means GrandWest’s entertainment is just a short walk away. Depending on your children’s ages, you can build your days around:

  • Ice skating, arcade games and ten-pin bowling for tweens and teens.
  • Casual, family-friendly restaurants and fast-food options for quick, fuss-free meals.
  • Cinemas and live shows for special nights out together.

The hotel also works well as a base for exploring wider Cape Town. From GrandWest you can:

  • Head into the city for the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain or the Two Oceans Aquarium.
  • Spend a beach day at Blouberg or Camps Bay, then return to plenty of evening entertainment on site.
  • Combine your stay with a few nights elsewhere, such as the winelands or along the Garden Route.

I often recommend The Grand Hotel for families who like:

  • A fun, convenient base with plenty to keep children busy.
  • A short stay at the start or end of a longer Western Cape holiday.
  • An easy school-holiday break where everything is in one place.

If you are thinking about a family stay at The Grand Hotel, GrandWest in Cape Town, I can help you choose the right dates, room options and experiences, and tailor-make a wider itinerary that suits your family’s style and budget.
