Cape Grace Hotel Marina

Cape Grace - fab for Families!

My children & I enjoyed a memorable stay at the Cape Grace in the July school holidays. From the moment you arrive, you are greeted with warm smiles at the door, polished interiors that feel more like a grand private home than a hotel lobby… and those postcards views of the marina – breathtaking!

Tucked on its own private quay between the yacht marina and the bustling V&A Waterfront, The Cape Grace is one of those rare places that really does work beautifully for the whole family. It feels intimate and yet offers every comfort and convenience you could want on a Cape Town holiday with children.

Rooms and suites are thoughtfully designed, with plenty of natural light and space to spread out. Many enjoy views of Table Mountain or the marina, which children love watching as boats come and go. Interleading options and larger suites make it easy to keep everyone together, and the classic, homely décor works just as well for a special family occasion as it does for a relaxed school-holiday escape.

Practical and thoughtful touches such as amenities and gifts for the children (wet wipes, nappy bin, plastic bowl, spoon, bubble bath, towel, gowns, slippers) air conditioning, Wi-Fi and in-room dining keep life simple, while balconies in many rooms give parents a peaceful spot to savour a quiet glass of wine once the children are asleep.

The Cape Grace pool area is a lovely sanctuary, with sun loungers and umbrellas where you can base yourselves for lazy afternoons between sightseeing. There is a children’s pool section, and the team are wonderfully attentive with towels, drinks and snacks.

For parents needing some “me time”, the spa and gym are an added bonus. You can easily build in an hour or two for a massage or steam while the children relax with the other parent, or after a morning of exploring.

One of the biggest advantages for families is the location. Step outside and you are moments from the V&A Waterfront: an easy, stroller-friendly area with shops, casual and upscale restaurants, the Two Oceans Aquarium, playgrounds and regular street performers. It means no long transfers or complicated logistics: you can dip in and out of the city’s energy as much as you wish.

From here it is also very simple to reach Table Mountain, Camps Bay and Clifton beaches, the Cape Peninsula and the winelands, so you can build in a mix of beach time, gentle adventure and cultural experiences that suit all ages.

Why I recommend The Cape Grace for families

  • A genuinely warm, personal style of service that makes children feel special.
  • Flexible room and suite options that work for younger and older families.
  • A calm, elegant atmosphere that still feels relaxed and welcoming.
  • A superb waterfront location, putting so many family-friendly attractions within easy reach.
  • Lovely facilities including pool, spa and gym, so there is always something to do between excursions.

If you are dreaming of a Cape Town family holiday that combines character, comfort and convenience, The Cape Grace is one of my top recommendations. I can tailor a stay here around your family’s interests, whether that is gentle adventure, foodie discoveries, wildlife or simply quality time together in one of the world’s most beautiful cities.
