More Than a Career: Why I Became a Travel Counsellor
After more than 35 years in the travel industry, I’ve come to realise something simple — it was never really about the destinations.
It’s about understanding people, earning their trust, and creating journeys that truly mean something. That’s what led me to become a Travel Counsellor.
When I first started in travel, things were very different. There were no instant bookings or online confirmations — everything relied on conversations, relationships, and attention to detail. You had to truly listen to your clients, understand their needs, and take responsibility for every part of their journey.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of travellers. Business clients who need precision and efficiency. Families planning special time together. Individuals setting off on once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Every booking came with its own story — and that’s what has always made this industry so rewarding.
While technology has transformed how we book and plan travel, it hasn’t changed what people are really looking for.
- They want someone who understands them.
- Someone who takes the pressure off.
- Someone they can trust.
That’s where being a Travel Counsellor makes all the difference.
For me, it’s about going beyond the booking. It’s about taking the time to get to know each client properly — understanding what matters to them, what they enjoy, and what they need from their trip. From there, I can create something that feels completely personal, seamless, and stress-free.
Whether it’s a complex business itinerary or a long-awaited dream holiday, I believe every journey deserves that level of care and attention.
Because at the end of the day, travel isn’t just about getting from one place to another.
It’s about how you feel along the way — and how you feel when you finally arrive.
