If there was ever a trip that perfectly combined luxury, adrenaline & unforgettable sporting moments, this was it. From watching world-class tennis at Roland-Garros to standing just metres away from Formula 1 cars flying through the streets of Monaco, this adventure ticked off some of the biggest items on my travel bucket list. It also introduced me to a sport I never expected to fall in love with while bringing me back to the one that has had my heart for years, Formula 1.

At the end of May, I landed in France, ready for an adventure I'd been dreaming about. After a few days of unpredictable weather, 31 May delivered the perfect Parisian summer day—clear blue skies, warm sunshine, and the ideal setting for my very first international tennis match at the iconic Stade Roland-Garros. The experience started in style with access to the exclusive Le Pavillon Hospitality Lounge, where complimentary drinks, delicious snacks, and a cosy Roland-Garros blanket set the tone for an incredible day. Walking into the stadium was a moment I'll never forget. Before the main event even began, I got to watch the legendary John McEnroe entertaining the crowd with a few shots on court—a surreal moment for any sports fan. Then, the match of the day, Casper Ruud vs João Fonseca. For over three hours, these two athletes produced one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament. Every rally, every point, every comeback had the crowd completely invested. Even as someone still discovering the world of tennis, I found myself completely captivated. By the time we left the stadium after midnight, I wasn't just leaving with incredible memories—I was leaving with a brand-new appreciation for the sport.

Paris: more than just the Eiffel Tower. Before heading to Monaco, I spent a few days soaking up everything Paris has to offer. If you're as obsessed with Lacoste as I am, then Cafe Lacoste absolutely deserves a spot on your itinerary. Great coffee, delicious desserts, fantastic food, and a stylish atmosphere make it one of my favourite hidden gems. Football fans shouldn't miss the PSG Cafe on the Champs-Élysées either. Whether you're stopping in for lunch or simply wanting to experience one of football's biggest brands, it's well worth the visit.

Next stop—Nice. Although I was welcomed by more grey skies, nothing was going to dampen my excitement because the Monaco Grand Prix weekend had finally arrived. I checked into the Mercure Nice Promenade des Anglais, perfectly located opposite the beach and within easy reach of everything. After settling in, I wandered behind the hotel and discovered some incredible restaurants. Dinner at Rodizio Beach, a Brazilian restaurant with exceptional food and even better hospitality, was the perfect way to kick off the weekend. Then it was an early night because Friday meant one thing... It's Lights Out... and Away We Go! After breakfast, I grabbed an Uber to Gare de Nice-Ville , where thousands of Formula 1 fans were making the short train journey to Monaco. The security was efficient, and within about 30 minutes we were pulling into one of the most famous race weekends in the world. Everywhere you looked were team shirts, flags, excited fans, luxury yachts, and the unmistakable buzz that only Formula 1 can create. Originally, I had purchased Secteur Rocher (The Rock) tickets. While they're great if you're simply looking to experience the atmosphere, I'd strongly recommend upgrading to grandstand tickets if you actually want to watch the race. That's exactly what I did—and it completely transformed the weekend. Not only did I gain access for all three days, but I also enjoyed incredible views of the circuit that made every session unforgettable.

Saturday brought qualifying—one of the most exciting sessions in Formula 1. Before heading to my seat, I explored Monaco's Fan Zone. It's definitely smaller than the fan experiences in Singapore and Miami, but seeing Formula 1 legend Damon Hill on stage more than made up for it. Then it was time! The engines fired up and every lap mattered. Watching my favourite driver, the G.O.A. T, Sir Lewis Hamilton qualify in P2, had me celebrating from the grandstand. Monaco is one of the toughest circuits on the calendar, so seeing Lewis perform at that level made the day even more special. Back in Nice that evening, I celebrated the only way that seemed appropriate—with what might genuinely be the best pizza I've ever eaten at La Pizza Cresci, a family favourite that's been serving locals since 1956. Nothing prepares you for Monaco on race day. The energy is different, the crowds are louder, the yachts filled the harbour. Just before lights out, South Africa's very own Black Coffee took to the stage and got the entire crowd buzzing, hearing his music echo across Monaco before the world's biggest race began was such a proud moment. My grandstand seats were incredibly close to the circuit, giving me one of the best views I've ever had at a Formula 1 race. During the drivers' parade, I managed to get my closest glimpse yet of Lewis, making an already unforgettable day even more special. Every single lap reminded me why Formula 1 is, in my opinion, the greatest sport on Earth. Watching Lewis finish strong and stand on the podium was the perfect ending to an unforgettable weekend. One of the most unique Monaco traditions happens the moment the chequered flag falls. As soon as the winner crosses the finish line, every yacht in the harbour sounds its horn in celebration, creating an incredible atmosphere unlike any other race on the Formula 1 calendar. It's one of those moments that gives you goosebumps.

Looking Ahead, here's a fun fact for fellow Formula 1 fans. 2029 marks the 100th anniversary of the Monaco Grand Prix. If this race is already one of the most iconic sporting events in the world, I can only imagine how spectacular that centenary celebration will be. One thing is certain...I'll definitely be trying to be there.
