Stylised escapes at W Algarve

With a fun, escapist feel and a cool design designed to appeal to stylish adult guests, this hip and glamorous new retreat opened in spring 2022. It combines a beachside vibe with urban styling in its fresh, airy rooms, suites and residences, all of which come with sea views that make it the perfect choice for next summer’s dose of Mediterranean sunshine.

Everything at the resort conspires to convince you to stay put, from the slick spa to fitness boot camps, from the sparkling outdoor infinity pool with its cabanas and DJ, to the sunrise yoga sessions. But there’s also plenty to do in the surrounding area: three gorgeous golden-sand beaches within just a few metres, hidden caves to explore, bouldering and water sports to name just a few of the local highlights. All this and a plum setting on the central Algarve coast just outside Albufeira, only a 40-minute transfer from Faro International Airport.

Stylised escapes at W Algarve

Accommodation

This a fairly intimate resort of 134 sea-facing rooms, suites and residences, all with BOSE sound systems with specially curated playlists and ‘mixbars’ of treats, their design inspired by Algarvian chimneys. Among them are 10 WOW Suites, aptly named for their private rooftop terraces as well as separate living spaces. Some have private plunge pools to add to the fun, and there are also two-bedroom residences with kitchens – two of them breathtaking penthouses.

For decor, think funky furniture inspired by the shape of beach pebbles and local sea caves in dove-grey and seagrass-green hues.

Food and drink

The Algarve is blessed with wonderful local produce, and the kitchens at the W make the very most of this in venues including SIP @ WET, which serves ocean-inspired healthy food including soul-food detox bites, plus signature cocktails and local micro brews. Other places to indulge are the Market Kitchen with its alfresco area and modern interpretations of international favourites and farm and ocean-fresh local cuisine, Paper Moon for Italian cuisine by the award-winning Milanese restaurant group, and Living Room for cocktails, aperitifs, craft beers and global gins accompanied by tapas and teasers.

Meanwhile, sociable spots for a tipple include the Sea Sky rooftop bar with its panoramic bay views and DJ sets - the perfect place for sunset drinks – and AIR, a decadent clifftop deck for champagne and other fizz. There’s also the indulgence of 24-hour room service at your beck and call.

Spa and fitness

As well as being a short stroll from golden-sand beaches where you can relax or be active in the Mediterranean sea air, the W Algarve has a unique spa with six treatment rooms (including one for couples), a steam room, a sauna, fire and ice tubs, dynamic showers and mani-pedi stations – all of which combine to make you feel all shiny and new. As well as a tented outdoor relaxation lounge overlooking the lovely resort garden, the spa has a convivial Beauty Bar serving cocktails and detoxifying drinks, including infused waters, ayurvedic teas and organic vegan-based protein shakes.

The resort also has also a state-of-the-art gym and organises fitness sessions ranging from bliss-inducing sunrise yoga to challenging boot camps. A multi-level infinity pool beckons, too, and there are nearby water sports for aquatic-based fitness and fun.
