Sights and Sounds in Mauritius

Mauritius has long been called the “rainbow island” for several reasons which you are yet to see and hear, and live. Undeniably, the landscape in Mauritius is one of the first mind-boggling assets which will hold your attention. Blue skies set the pace for the insular journey you are about to embark on. This goes without mentioning the natural fauna and flora, with nuances of greens, caressed by the glowing sometimes yellowish, other times golden sunset whispers at dusk.

Tropical Tastes

Pineapples, yes. But not only. Brace your taste buds to the vibes of summer with the variety of tropical fruits found and grown on the island. While you might already guess a few, some of them will be real discoveries and amazement to you. Summer, especially the month of February is the momentum for the natural delicacies to bloom and shape into their utmost and most authentic local savours. This period is known and fancied for its guava picking exploration - sumptuous little red guavas, most commonly called “Goyaves de Chine”. Grown in a semi-moist temperature in the surroundings of neighborhood and accessible forestry spots near Plaine Champagne, these pretty tasties are a real quest for pleasure. This most awaited moment of the year, shared among friends and family is a total win! The guavas are hand-picked in the middle of the smoothness of the green hoods – guaranteeing fun times! Once collected, they are eaten on the spot while a bagful of those are ideal for refined home-made guava jam made à la mauricienne! The palette of fruits in Mauritius is a reflection of its culture – colorful and exotic, ranging from bananas, litchis, papayas, grapes, watermelon, and the list is yet to unveil… Ventures into the local markets, or walking around on the beaches, and street avenues, one gets to delight on fancy mouth-watering recipes made from those tropical fruits. While we cannot essentially describe the feel good of those tastes, we invite you to the bursting of the senses in all its glory.

Enchanted Festivities

Distancing from the insular islander life, Mauritius holds precious celebrations, which rhyme with union and enchantment. Multicultural by nature, with a population of varied ethnicity, Mauritius calls for the celebration of different religious festivities along the year. The most coveted being the Maha Shivratree – a pilgrimage to the sacred lake of Grand-Bassin in the name of Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims walk from their homes to the lake, carrying songs, matras, and dances along the way. Celebrated by people from every community, this festival has for decades been perceived as one of the biggest events of the year, if not an invitation to the fragments of Hinduism blended with the local inspirations. A spiritual journey for many with strikes of mysticism and devotion. An experience, among others, for instance the celebration of the Chinese New Year, Eid Ul Fitr, Cavedee, Holi, Easter, Divali, and Christmas. Those festivities are rejoiced in lights, colours, food, crowds, underlined by common happiness and compassion. Heart-felt, these once in a life time first times are close to leaving you in awe, and more.

Nature Unwrapped

Words fall short when it comes to grounding. The island makes room for fresh air moments like no other. At the top of the list, we will mention it one too many times, but the benefits of the sea are priceless. Reenergize along the coast and indulge in the wonders of the ocean through glass bottom boat rides and snorkeling sessions. Swim with the dolphins at sunrise at Tamarin… and please give us reviews of moments like these! Breathtaking, spectacular, and bonding with nature at its most aesthetic! There is so much to the underworld we cannot describe.

World Leisure Holidays combines farniente with well-being, believing that holidays should be an all-rounder experience. Welcome to the Island Life, Happy Holidays and keep surfing along the waves.
