My Escape to Lake Malawi
My Escape to Lake Malawi
There are trips you book for clients, and then there are trips you experience yourself, trips that remind you why you fell in love with travel in the first place. My journey to Lake Malawi with Kayak Africa was one of those unforgettable escapes.
Why Lake Malawi?
Lake Malawi, often called the Lake of Stars, is a peaceful tropical escape in the heart of Africa. Think clear, warm water, colourful fish, and a relaxed, unspoilt atmosphere that feels wonderfully far from everyday life.
Day 1: Arrival in Paradise
My journey began in Johannesburg, flying into Blantyre before a scenic drive to
Club Makokola. From the moment I arrived, the gentle lake breeze and friendly
welcome made it clear: this was something special.
Day 2: Sailing to Mumbo Island
The next day, we sailed with Danforth Yachting across a glassy, shimmering lake
to Mumbo Island in Lake Malawi National Park. I spent the day kayaking on
turquoise water and watching one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever
seen.
Day 3: Simple, Island Living
Waking up on Mumbo Island was pure bliss—no noise, no rush, just the sound of
the water and rustling palms. We enjoyed simple, fresh meals and easy
conversation with fellow travellers, all of us reconnecting with what we love
about travel.
Day 4: A Final Sunset
On the last night, we stayed at Danforth Guesthouse before flying back to
Johannesburg. As I packed, I realised this trip was more than a work visit. It
was a powerful reminder that travel is about connection, discovery, and
memories that stay with you.
Why You Should Go
After experiencing Lake Malawi myself, I can honestly say it is perfect for
anyone seeking calm, natural beauty and a truly authentic African lake escape.
If you have clients in mind, I can help you shape this into a tailored Lake Malawi itinerary, including the right mix of islands, lodges and special experiences, for a premium yet relaxed escape.
