Teen-friendly family fun in the Spanish Pyrenees

06 April 2018

Take the family on an adrenaline-fuelled adventure through the Pyrenees with Intrepid Travel, and try hiking, cycling and white-water rafting as you explore the scenic valleys and rugged terrain of south-west Europe. Spanning eight days and heading from Soldeu out to Andorra and into Spain, you’ll enjoy fun experiences from horseback riding to challenging hikes and mountain biking – there’s something for all the family.

Eight days of adventure

Your adventure begins in Soldeu where you will meet with your group leader and become acquainted with your fellow travellers. On arrival, explore at your leisure or relax at your hotel, the quaint Roc de St Miquel. This stone-walled abode is your home for the week and is conveniently located just 500 metres from the centre of Soldeu.

Your second day starts with a short 100-metre climb to the summit of Pic Maia, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the mountains. From here a downhill ridge walk will lead you back to the hotel, but not before spotting the majestic wildlife including griffon vultures and passing the tranquil Siscaro Lakes. Once you arrive back at the hotel, relax in the sun - or if you still have the energy head out on a scenic bike ride.

Over the next few days, activities include a flat route bike ride to Engolasters Lake, a visit to the stunning viewpoint of Andorra la Vella, and a picnic in an alpine wood. Make the most of a free day where you and your family can visit the thermal baths of La Caldea, zipline through the treetops or even try canyoning. Of course, it’s entirely up to you, so if all you need after an actioned-packed first few days is some rest and relaxation, take some time to unwind at the hotel or in one of the neighbouring spas.

Thrill seekers can get involved in some exhilarating white-water rafting and head out on some off-road cycle tracks along the Iron Route, passing the iron mines, mills and forges of times gone by. You’ll also be able to admire the stunning views at Roc del Quer’s platform skywalk; an incredible suspended viewpoint which gives the feeling of flying. Spend the final day of the trip hiking through forest mountain slopes along a gently climbing path up to the beautiful Cabana Sorda Lake, where you can stop and enjoy some lunch. Eager hikers can continue up to the peak to get a birds-eye view of the valley below, or you can choose to stay around the lake and take a refreshing dip. Once you’re back on the floor of the valley, head back to the hotel to spend your final night enjoying dinner and reflecting on the memories you’ve made.
