Singapore is an ideal destination for families. There’s so much to see and do, so we’re going to help you craft an action-packed child-friendly itinerary for your next holiday by revealing the top places to take your kids in Singapore.
Singapore is an island city-state situated off southern Malaysia. A vibrant South-East Asian melting pot and a global financial capital, Singapore is a dream family holiday destination with theme and water parks, beaches, shopping centres, animal attractions and plenty more! Just some of the places you should visit are;
One of the best water parks in the city is Wild Wild Wet which is popular for its exhilarating rides - Ular Lah is the first raft slide in South-East Asia and ‘The Water Works’ is a thrilling high-speed flume. Trek out to Sentosa Island for a trip to Adventure Cove Waterpark, where you can snorkel with 20,000 tropical fish over a multi-hued reef, or enjoy attractions such as its Riptide Rocket – Asia’s first hydro-magnetic coaster. Another good water park is Splash @ Kidz Amaze in Punggol, which has an amazing indoor water playground.
The standout theme park in Singapore is Universal Studios on Sentosa Island. It has seven movie-themed zones and rides inspired by the big screen, including ‘TRANSFORMERS: The Ride’ – where you grapple with the forces of evil in a 3D battle and the immersive ‘Shrek-4-D Adventure’ which feels all too real. There’s also an indoor roller coaster in the park’s Ancient Egypt section where you have to contend with mummies submerged in darkness, plus a wet river boat ride in the ‘Lost World’ area.
There are various other places you can go in Singapore if you’re looking for family thrills. Take a ride on the Singapore Flyer Ferris wheel located on the Marina Bay waterfront and get a 360-degree view of the city-state at the top. Cool off by stopping at Snow City in Jurong East. This is an indoor family-friendly snow centre where you can bullet down snow slides, build igloos, learn about the Northern Lights and experience a blizzard. For the bold at heart, there’s indoor skydiving at iFly Singapore on Sentosa!
Singapore may be an urban jungle, but it’s also a top beach destination. Enjoy some good old-fashioned family-fun at Sentosa’s Palawan Beach, which has a pirate-ship shaped water playground, rope swing bridges and picnic areas. Head to the beaches of Kusu Island based in the Straits of Singapore if you want to go wildlife spotting, as hundreds of turtles flock to them annually. In this same region, you’ll find the secluded Lazarus Island, known for its unspoilt golden shores.
Shopaholics will feel at home in cosmopolitan Singapore. A good place to shop is Orchard Road, which is lined with malls. Check out Paragon Shopping Centre, which has a play area for kids and brands like M&S, Nike, Gucci, Prada and Armani just to name a few. You could also go to Singapore’s ethnic quarters such as Little India, Chinatown and Malay community Geylang Sai to pick up traditional goods from around the world.
When you’re in Singapore enjoy fun educational experiences. There’s the Jurong Bird Park which houses over 600 species including flamingos, king penguins, and black swans as well as the interactive Singapore Discovery Centre where children can learn about the city-state’s past. Make time to visit the Gardens by the Bay nature park. It’s famed for its futuristic solar-powered ‘supertree’ structures which you can climb – at the top you’ll get panoramic views of the garden’s other sites like its flower dome and tropical ‘cloud forest’, giving you a new perspective on Singapore.
