But why not delve a little deeper to uncover a world off the beaten track, brimming with culture, exhilarating activities for the kids and Algarvian charm.
Explore the fascinating caves
Nestled on the coast of the west Algarve are the Benagil sea caves. Take the kids to see these fascinating coves on a boat trip and weave in and out of the impressive caves - the most famous being Algar de Benagil. From inside, you can see the blue sky through an opening in the ceiling known as ‘the eye’ – make sure you take your camera to capture it!
Leap into the ocean
Thrill-seekers can head to scenic Praia do Carvalho; an epic cliff-lined beach full of hidden caves, calm surf and towering platforms to leap into the water below from. There's a whole network of hidden paths and routes to explore, leading to the brink of the cliff ready for the dive of your life. One of the routes also leads to a secret beach inside a cave, which is normally only accessible by boat and is a great place to while away the day.
Kayak along the coast
A popular way to enjoy the Algarve's spectacular coastline is with a kayaking tour. Experience the fascinating rock formations up close, as well as the local wildlife and secluded beaches. For a three-hour kayaking tour, you can expect to pay around 25 euros per adult and 10 euros per child.
Soar above the trees
For a break from the beach, head to Parque Aventura, an exhilarating course of zip-lines and high ropes nestled away in the pine forest. Traverse from tree to tree and test your physical and mental ability to the max!
Get wet and wild
Slide and Splash is one of Europe’s largest waterparks – take the family for a day of kamikaze slides, wave pools and animal shows with parrots and reptiles. The kids can enjoy a day of adventure while you relax on the lawns and even treat yourself to a massage.
