Mauritius, the perfect island holiday

Margot Speed on 31 August 2015
I was privileged to be invited to go inspect some hotel properties in Mauritius in August 2015. It was lovely to be back on this special island, as it has been at least 10 years since my last visit. This was my 5th time and I am ready to go back again.

I was pleasantly surprised by how modern and efficient the new airport is. I recall the painful experience of the last trips being stuck at the old airport for a couple of hours due to weather. There was no air-conditioning and barely a duty free area. If it happened today it would not have been painful at all.

It was good to get a reminder of why people go to Mauritius. It really has something for everyone, no matter your age or budget. The island life moves at a different pace, I was only there for 4 days but it really felt longer. You will be blown away by the fantastic service and friendliness of the locals.

The island is rich in history, culture and culinary delights. Not to mention the stunning blue waters or sunning yourself on the beach. I got to try stand up paddling, taking out a kayak and snorkelling on the reef. There were so many other water sports to try out but I ran out of time. If you are a golfer there are eight 18-hole golf courses on the island to choose from. All were great experiences and even though it was winter the water was lovely and temperatures were great.

I stayed in 5 different hotels ranging from 3 to 5 Star and each one was good for its category. If you would like to find out more about them please don’t hesitate to contact me.

You can be as active or relaxed as you want to be in Mauritius and I would really suggest it for a holiday. It is great for everyone from honeymooners to families, I can find the perfect hotel for you. Mauritius is still a good value for money destination for South Africans and is only 4 hours away from Johannesburg.

I really hope it won’t be another 10 years till I get back to the amazing island, but in the meantime I am sure that I will be sending a lot of people to enjoy this island.
