Thonga Beach Lodge is a remote paradise set in an ecologically rich and diverse area with the beach and the protected ocean on one side and a canopied forest of ancient milkwoods on the other.

This intimate lodge is in the heart of the Isimangaliso Wetland Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and a short drive from Lake Sibaya - the largest freshwater lake in South Africa.

The 12 elegant, eco-sensitive rooms, with ocean or forest views, boast light and earthy tones and are positioned to afford maximum privacy and minimal environmental impact. 


Forest walks - explore the forest and grassland, home to over 440 bird species in the area, 2,200 ?owering plants, 282 butter?y and 228 spider species.

Turtle Tracking (additional charge) - Follow mother turtles as they return to the same beach where they were born to begin the cycle all over again. One turtle drive is undertaken each night during the turtle season (November – February). The turtle drive takes place around low tide and can last up to 4 hours. 

Scuba Diving - SCUBA diving at Thonga Beach is phenomenal, with reefs located only a short distance from the lodge. Shoals of game fish, sharks and schools of bottlenose dolphins are often encountered. All enthusiasts are welcome, from the beginner to the veteran. SCUBA training is also available at our PADI dive centre.

Spa - Indulge in facials, massages, manicures, pedicures, hot stone therapy and reflexology. 

Snorkelling - Mabibi is regarded as one of the best snorkeling sites in South Africa. The coral reefs along this protected stretch of coastline are home to thousands of species of tropical fish.

Kayaking - Early morning guided kayaking is offered on Lake Sibaya, southern Africa’s largest freshwater lake.

Birding - Complimentary guided birding excursions. Rosy-throated longclaw resident in the area. Many speciality bird species in the area
