Mauritius

In all my years of travel, I had never visited Mauritius until 2009. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the island. I had a basic idea of what Mauritius would be like, but you can never know until you have been there.

We spent ten days at Club Med's La Plantation d'Albion Resort which is situated on the North West coast of the Island.

The resort itself is superb and the food, accommodation and service was exceptional. We selected the all inclusive package option which meant that the only money that we spent during our entire time in Mauritius was on souvenirs and on a day trip where we chartered a speedboat. We spent that day snorkelling and having lunch on a tiny island which was about an hour or so from our resort.

The resort provided a crayfish lunch on the island which made a perfect day even better. There was nothing that the staff wouldn’t do to make our experience as enjoyable as possible. Vendors displaying their wares on converted boats parade up and down the beach and have very high quality items for sale at a reasonable price.

En route to the island we enjoyed snorkelling in the middle of the ocean where the water depth is a surprising five to six feet deep. This was an awesome experience and probably the best part of the trip.

Our private beach provided drinks, water sports and snacks continuously by friendly staff who after a day or two knew exactly what we drank and ate and they would not let your glass be empty for too long before bringing you another. This was the same at the swimming pool which also had a magnificent view of the Indian Ocean only meters away.

Whether you just lounge in the sun or enjoy water sports such as canoeing or sailing on a catamaran, Mauritius has it all.

Every night is party night, with a different theme each night. After a buffet dinner comprising of cuisine from ten countries around the world and each prepared perfectly, we made our way to the hall to watch an ever changing show. Later we headed towards the bar and pool area where the revelry began...and ended the following morning.

Should the weather not be ideal for the beach, one can take a short trip to Port Louis for sightseeing or shopping and this can be arranged by the resort staff at a moment’s notice.

Golf, archery and other land sports are also available to enjoy during your stay.

The resort caters for everyone, from retirees, to families and young people. The time of the year is also important when visiting Mauritius and I will recommend the best time to go when you enquire with me.

I can write a novel on this wonderful island, but the best way to experience it is to go there. Whatever your budget, Mauritius has a place for you. It is definitely a place to visit.....I know I will again.
