More and more of today’s travellers are not content to just stretch out on the beach. It’s now important for many people to create unforgettable experiences, learn new skills, see new things and enjoy all that a destination offers. That could mean perfecting your golf game at a world-class course, working with the resident golf pro to fine-tune your swing, and playing with skilled golfers around the world. Or you may want to sample a local spa treatment that uses indigenous ingredients and soothe away stress with some must-needed pampering. A slower travel pace is becoming a trend worldwide. Quality means more than quantity. That’s one reason why escorted coach tours are a popular choice. You can just sit back and relax while you travel the scenic way to great destinations – all the way you have the support and guidance of an escort who is there to ensure that your holiday is everything it should be.
If you enjoy a more leisurely travel pace, consider a cruise. River cruises have been experiencing a boost in popularity over the last few years because they offer a more intimate experience than large cruise ships. River boats also have access to many ports that are inaccessible to big ships. If you like all the amenities of a large vessel, you’ll be happy to know that today’s ships have more onboard experiences to offer, from ice skating to language lessons, from rock climbing and wine appreciation. At Travel Counsellors, we have the knowledge to match you with the right kind of cruise for you.
South Africans appreciate the finer things in life. Perhaps that’s why we love good food. Cooking tours are becoming increasingly popular. Food is a way of exploring culture and traditions, and a tour can take you to a top-rated cooking school, or to farmers’ markets, or to an artisan cheesemaker. What a wonderful way to get a taste of the best a destination has to offer. Naturally, we like to shop, too. A specialised shopping tour takes you to the best shops, the ones that other tourists don’t know about, the great designer outlets, and fabulous specialty stores where you can buy exquisite locally made goods.
Your personal Travel Counsellor can tailor-make an itinerary especially for the active traveller. Bicycle tours are a wonderful option. You can take in the sights at a leisurely pace, smell the aroma of flowers in the air, and get exercise all at the same time. Or head to the mountains for some quality time on the slopes with a custom ski package that suits your skill level and budget. Or explore the underwater world with diving. Novice or first-time diver, your personal Travel Counsellor can guide you to the perfect dive spot.
To get away from the buzz of the city, head for the great outdoors for a bush break. You can spend your days at a luxury camp, spotting wildlife on safari, and sip martinis by the poolside in the evening. That’s the beauty of a bush break. You’re close to nature, yet you still have all the comforts of home in a lodge or luxury tent. Stay closer to home with a bush break in Kruger National Park, one of the world’s best wildlife parks, or venture to Mozambique or Botswana. Imagine sitting under a starry sky surrounded by a calm stillness and a roaring campfire close at hand. That’s just a small slice of what a bush break can provide.
Experiences? Travel Counsellors has so many to choose from – active and sporty, pampering, gourmet, leisurely, or adventurous. What will you remember the most vividly from your next holiday? We’ll help you create memories with an unforgettable holiday package.
Want to do some good with your free time? Ask your personal Travel Counsellor about breaks where you can combine a visit to somewhere new with working on a much-needed humanitarian or social project in the region, maybe staying with a local family. No matter what kind of travel experience you want your own Travel Counsellor can help.

Idwala Game Lodge - Eastern Cape South Africa
Friday 30th April 2010

Travel Counsellor: Mark ter Stege
I spoilt my wife to a special weekend away in the Eastern Cape where we stayed at the Idwala Game Lodge. The Idwala Game Lodge is situated in the Frontier Country of the Eastern Cape of South Africa, and it is about 100 kilometres from Port Elizabeth when travelling on the N2 towards Grahamstown.
This weekend away was a special trip to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. What an awesome weekend it was. We were really taken care of and we even had our own personal game ranger. The meals that they served were absolutely delicious and were of the best quality.
During the game drives we got to see the “Big 5” as well as many other animals. We enjoyed a total of four game drives during the weekend. Each of the game drives were about three hours long, so getting to see all the animals was never a problem.
Idwala Game Lodge is malaria free Game Lodge which is perched on a cliff overlooking splendid valleys and it only caters for four couples at a time. This lodge is very popular... view full story
