There’s something about sunshine, a sandy beach and an expanse of water that is
soothing to the body and mind. It’s no wonder why South Africans love beach breaks
as their choice of holidays. Mauritius ranks high among our favourite sun destinations.
It’s the melting pot of cultures and religions (Hindu, Creole, Muslim, Chinese and
Europeans) that makes it so unique and its tranquility that attracts so many South
Africans. We love the beaches, stretches of ivory sand along secluded lagoons, perfect
for lounging, snorkeling, and afternoon naps. When the mood strikes, you can head
to the market and snack on curry dishes and herbal tea, then kayak along the coastline
through peaceful lagoons and bays. Or wander through the botanical gardens for its
indigenous and exotic plants (like the giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies).
Take a dream trip to the exclusive Seychelles, perhaps the closest place we have
to paradise on earth. Its resorts are nothing short of spectacular with attentive
service to match. This is the place to go when you want to be pampered from head
to toe, with fantastic dining, luxurious spas, and memorable experiences from chartering
a yacht for the day, or enjoying a meal at a table with a perfect view of the sunset.
The beaches of Bali and the Maldives also beckon to diving enthusiasts who transport
themselves into an undersea world, full of beauty, wildlife and serenity. While
Thailand is a treasure for those who enjoy different cultural adventures, shopping
and wonderful beaches.
Not to worry if you don’t have much time to devote to your holiday. Close to home,
Mozambique is terrific value for your money, with ample attractions, hotels and
resorts to experience. But watch out for Zanzibar. It has become popular as well
because of its affordability and its ability to give visitors a first-rate holiday.
Good To Know...
In one survey, 77 percent of respondents said that a beach holiday was their most
desired type of holiday.

Mediterranean Cruise on Regent Voyager
Sunday 24th September 2006

Travel Counsellor: Karen Smith
I was lucky be invited on an educational cruise with Regent Voyager. I can honestly say that if you want to be pampered from start to finish this is the way to travel. The service was outstanding, entertainment was great and I only unpacked once!!!
My cruise started in Athens so I flew from Gatwick Airport with EasyJet to Athens (good basic service at excellent prices). On arrival I was met by a Representative of Regent and transferred by coach to the ship. This was the smoothest transfer out, most times I have arrived in Athens and arranged my own transfers so this was wonderful to have been met and taken care of.
We visited a few destinations: Santorini - we took the cable car up to the top, they still have donkey rides up the hillside but not too many people take them. We did some exploring and some shopping. I had been here before and knew some wonderful spots to get some amazing pictures.
Next stop was Kusadasi, Turkey. Friendly and helpful people, in the town centre there... view full story
